A very rare opportunity has arisen for two outstanding journalists to join the Parkers editorial team.

We are recruiting a staff writer and a deputy editor to build on the continuing success of Parkers and to drive forward new growth.

What’s the brand?

Parkers is an extremely successful automotive brand with a range of multimedia products.

The award-winning consumer website is ranked by Hitwise as the UK’s leading destination for UK car buyers. It’s also one of Bauer Media’s most successful online brands.

A rare opportunity has arisen for two ambitious journalists to join the Parkers team to help drive the next stage of growth and expansion.

So what’s the deputy editor role?

  • Managing the editorial team on a daily basis to ensure content is published in a timely fashion 
  • To ensure the team delivers quality editorial including car reviews laser-focused towards car buyers
  • Be a social media and digital champion for Parkers and its audience
  • Attend car launches and industry events both in the UK and abroad
  • To be a key player in developing, informing and implementing the Parkers brand strategy

What skills does the deputy editor need?

  • A strong set of digital skills including knowledge of CMS, social media and analytical software
  • Experience of managing an editorial team to deliver high quality consumer editorial
  • A good grasp of all forms of digital media including smart phone apps and video
  • A working knowledge of social media and how to employ it effectively to drive user engagement
  • A strong understanding of UK car buyers and company car drivers, and a passion for cars is also extremely desirable

Who are we looking for?

You are likely to be an experienced section head or deputy editor who is as equally versed in digital media as in print.

You will have a strong set of digital skills including in-depth knowledge of social media, websites and other digital formats such as newsletters and digital magazines.

Your current responsibilities will also include the management of an editorial team – preferably in the automotive arena.

  • Writing car reviews, first drives and advice for car buyers and company car drivers
  • Accruing an in-depth knowledge of modern cars and what separates good from brilliant
  • Being a key driver of Parkers social media strategy
  • Leading the development and driving the success of Parkers’ newsletters
  • Attending car launches and industry events both in the UK and abroad
  • Help update reviews, valuations and ensure site content is bang up to date and accurate
  • Getting to know car buyers better than they know themselves

What skills are needed?

  • You should be a qualified, practicing journalist
  • You’ll have a clear and accurate writing style
  • You will know and understand best practice for writing online
  • The ability to spot jargon, clichés and PR fluff instantly will come in very useful
  • A strong grasp of all forms of digital media is important
  • You’ll be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of newsletters and what separates okay ones from best in-class
  • A good understanding of UK car buyers and a passion for cars is also very desirable

Who are we looking for?

You will be a qualified, practising journalist and either looking for your first break in motoring journalism or looking for your next step on.

You are likely to obsess about digital media and will instinctively know how to get the best out of writing for online, and you’re likely to run your own blog or website.

You will be very organized, thrive on pressure and enjoy hitting deadlines time and time again. Bags of enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved in new projects are essential traits, plus knowledge of modern cars, car buyers and company car drivers are all very welcome.
