Welcome back to Lease of the Week, my series where we showcase the best car leasing deals on the web. Each week we select a car with some jaw-dropping deals attached and give it its moment in the sun.
Last week we looked at the simple joys offered by leasing a Hyundai i20, a small car with a rock-bottom leasing price. This week it’s the turn of the ultimate in family transportation – a big seven-seater. While this car far from being the best car on sale today, the value alone is tremendous.
In the e-5008’s favour are its stylish looks, large boot and premium-feeling interior. Despite these positives, the Peugeot e-5008 ranks low in our round-up of the best electric seven-seat cars for several reasons. The ride is firm and lumpen, the interior ergonomics are flawed for a family-centric car, and the electric motors lack enough poke to compensate for its hefty weight.
We’d much rather steer a prospective buyer towards the retro-styled Volkswagen ID. Buzz or the simply epic Kia EV9. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the e-5008 can be leased for half the monthly cost of either rival – it's possible to run three Peugeots for the monthly cost of a single Volvo EX90. The only real competitor at this exceptional price point is the Toyota Proace City Verso – an electric van with more windows and seats where the cement mixer would normally go.
Both trim levels – Allure and GT – can be found for comfortably less than £300 per month. While the best deals apply to the smaller 73kWh battery model, expect around 250 miles per charge with relative ease.
Allure may be the entry-level option, but it's well-equipped with tri-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, wireless smartphone mirroring, and a suite of advanced safety tech. The cheapest lease at the time of writing is £251.50 per month for two years, with an initial rental fee of £3,018.
Upgrade to GT trim for just a few extra pounds per month and you’ll get useful additions like heated front seats, driver lumbar support, adaptive cruise control, and a hands-free tailgate. The best deal at the time of writing was £268.92 per month over two years, with an initial rental fee of £3,227.04.
