I’m back on the hunt for my Lease of the Week deal, finding a new car deal that deserves to have it’s moment in the sun.
Last week, I was bowled over by the Renault Scenic E-Tech, the reigning Car of The Year and a tremendous electric SUV. This week, I’m going old-school with an SUV that only sports an engine and has no hybrid assistance whatsoever.
From £220 per month
We still rate it highly, despite it being fundamentally the same car that launched in 2017. It earned a respectable podium finish in our small SUV group test earlier this year, competing against a crop of much newer rivals.
In short, the T-Roc is a well-rounded car, perfectly suited to the needs of a small family. The spacious and well-equipped interior is a highlight, even if a few scratchy plastics detract slightly from Volkswagen's usual quality hallmark.
Despite its age, it doesn’t feel outdated. A minor facelift in 2022 helped keep it looking fresh. It also introduced a new infotainment system (which works well) and haptic controls on the steering wheel (which don’t).
Small SUVs are ten a penny, and most hover around the £200–£300 per month range, but the T-Roc stands out with its premium image and affordable price tag. With prices starting as low as £220, it's a great deal.
As for rivals, those going head-to-head with the T-Roc can't match it for value. The Skoda Kamiq might be a marginally better small SUV, but it doesn't offer the same value for money and is a smaller car. The T-Roc is also more enjoyable to drive.
The Volkswagen Taigo, an in-house competitor with a swoopier body and similarly competitive leasing rates, is another option. However, the T-Roc stands above it thanks to its nicer interior and larger boot — two key factors in the small SUV segment.
The best deals are typically on R-Line models, which sit at the midpoint of the T-Roc range but come with generous equipment levels. These include heated front seats, ambient lighting, LED lights, microsuede upholstery, adaptive cruise control, and a full suite of safety technology.
If you want to stand out, there's even a soft-top T-Roc Cabriolet, though its leasing rates are significantly higher than those of the SUV.
