Easy to understand range
One diesel, three petrols

According to the WLTP tests, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) is the one to go for if you’re looking for the cheapest running costs. Officially it’ll do 183.8-232.3mpg. These figures are largely make believe unless you religiously plug in and don’t go very far. But if you keep the battery topped up, day-to-day driving can reveal mpg close to three figures. Officially it’ll go 38 miles using just electricity, but we reckon it’s more like 20-25 miles in real-world conditions.

Next up is the 1.5-litre diesel. It has a rating of 51.4-61.2mpg and, while we’ve not tested it yet, in other Stellantis group cars it is extremely economical.

The 1.2-litre 130hp petrol has an official rating of 41.4-48.8mpg, while the 1.6-litre comes in two states of tune. The 180hp version claims 38.3-4.39mpg and the 225hp version will reportedly do 38-43.7mpg. We haven’t done any meaningful efficiency testing with these engines yet but will report back when we do.

Servicing and warranty

The DS 4 comes with a bog standard three-year/60,000 mile warranty. For the PHEV, the battery gets a separate eight-year/100,000 miles one.

New DS 4s also come with five years worth of servicing thrown in. For an additional cost, there’s also a valet option. With this, someone will pick up and drop off your car when you need it serviced.

The DS 4 features a lot of the same tech and hardware as the Peugeot 308 and a fair few other Stellantis models. The engines in particular have proven to be reliable in other cars.

It’s too early to tell for a lot of the software and hardware. But it has received one recall already, relating to an airbag not being fitted incorrectly.
