Honda Civic: The new EX trim

More changes for 2009

As well as engine and exterior changes, the facelifted 2009 Civic also features slightly revised trim levels. The names still remain the same though, so there's SE, Sport, ES and EX. Plus to confuse things a bit more an ES GT and an EX GT!

Our car is a range-topping EX so gets plenty of equipment including:

17-inch alloy wheels adaptive cruise control
automatic headlights front foglights
dual-zone climate control electric windows
rear parking sensors rain sensing wipers
electric mirrors footwell illuminion
auto dimming rear view mirror steering wheel stereo controls

The EX also used to come with a voice recognition DVD satellite navigation (with integrated Bluetooth) and xenon headlights.

However, for the 2009MY models these have been moved onto the EX GT trim. In place of these, the EX gets leather upholstery, heated front seats and a panoramic glass roof (which used to be optional extras themselves). It also gets new alloy wheel designs.

The leather seats are certainly a nice feature and very comfortable. The fact they're heated has been useful in the recent cold weather too. But while I appreciate the large glass roof, I think I would have happily done without all these and stuck with sat nav and Bluetooth instead. Both are far more useful!
