Should I buy one?

The OTT exterior styling and bland outdated interior design make the Type R hard to recommend over a VW Golf R or Hyundai i30N.

But if you’re sold on the looks and you really ache for something that will bring the track day feeling to the road with a raucous engine, pin sharp throttle response and superb manual gearbox, it’s certainly a worthy option.

What we like

It’s a riot to drive in the right conditions. Everything from driving position to the feel of the controls has been designed in a way that’ll please petrol heads. Surprisingly big boot adds to the overall practicality too.

What we don’t like

The ride is harsh and brittle making it hard to relax in, there’s only room for four and the interior feels dated already.
