We suspected the Hyundai Ioniq 9 was a great SUV when we drove it abroad, and a few days in the UK has confirmed it. Our top spec cars have been delightful, but we suspect a seven-seat dual motor non-Performance will be the one to have.

What we like

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is a brilliant addition to the electric seven-seater market. With a spacious, comfortable interior, thoughtful details and flexible seating, it looks to be a serious challenger for our current class champ, the Kia EV9. It boasts strong power options, rapid charging, plenty of standard equipment, and an impressively smooth, quiet ride.

What we don’t like

The infotainment system is menu-heavy and not the easiest to use. Entry-level versions will feel underpowered, and there’s some body roll in corners. The expected starting price is also quite high despite some cheap interior fittings, and the ride can be fidgety over poorly surfaced roads.
