Should you buy one?

Not only is the Kona Electric the pick of the small Hyundai SUV line-up, it’s one of the better mainstream electric SUVs on the market.

We recommend adding it to your shopping list. It’s good value, has a long range and is reasonable to drive. Pretty quick too. Plus it comes with Hyundai’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty, which is much more generous than the norm.

If you’re after something that’s a bit more practical, the Kia Niro EV is a good substitution, while if you want something that’s a bit flashier the Tesla Model Y may be more expensive, but it’s faster, better to drive and comes with its Supercharger network.

What we like

In 64kWh form it has a range of 279 miles. Sure, that’s unlikely in the real world, but based on our driving, we think you’d be hard-pressed to get much less than 220 miles out of it.

What we don’t like

It is a bit smaller than its rivals. This means the rear seats and boot are a bit smaller than you might expect, making it less than ideal if you want to use it as your sole family car.

The Kona Electric is a solid electric SUV, especially for the price
