This is an area which needs to impress in an SUV, since they’re predominately aimed towards family motoring – the Hyundai Tucson’s good, but it doesn’t set any new standards for the segments.
You’ve got loads of room inside for four adults, and five will fit at a squeeze. There are cup holders dotted around the cabin – two in the front (though with bigger bottles of drink your arm fouls the gear lever on manual cars) and two in the arm rest between rear seats. You’ve also got bottle holders in the door pockets and doors which open nice and wide for easy access.
Other storage compartments include the area under the heater controls, which also (depending on spec) contains USB, aux-in and 12-volt jacks.
Will it fit in my garage?
Given its relatively modest footprint, finding a conventional parking space to slot a Hyundai Tucson into shouldn’t prove too difficult. Also, despite its elevated bodywork, it’s not especially high – even with roof rails fitted – so multi-storey car parks shouldn’t prove daunting either.
Making things even easier are all-round parking sensors and even a 360-degree parking camera, but this is only available on top-flight Premium SE versions.
Again, no new standards are set by the Hyundai Tucson’s bootspace. It measures 513 litres - or 488 litres if you’ve got a spare tyre instead of an inflation kit – and expands to 1,503 litres (or 1,478 litres respectively) when the rear seats are folded down.
Those back seats also fold down in a 60:40 split for versatility, but they don’t lie completely flat when carrying longer loads.
Hyundai Tucson safety
Five-star Euro NCAP rating
Lots of safety kit is standard across the range
Pop-up bonnet protects pedestrians
You shouldn’t have too much to worry about regarding the Hyundai Tucson’s safety credentials, after all it achieved a full five-star rating from Euro NCAP rating back in 2015.
There’s certainly a lot of kit installed to keep passengers safe. Standard fare includes automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, six airbags, an active bonnet system (which pops-up in the event of a pedestrian impact), child locks on rear doors, a roll-over sensor for the curtain airbags, a sophisticated traction and stability control system, hill-start assist, two Isofix child seat points in the rear, trailer stability assist and tyre-pressure monitoring.
Moving up the trim levels, SE adds a full-size spare wheel and cruise control with a speed limiter, plus rear parking sensors and lane keeping assist – which steers you back into your lane if the car detects you drifting unintentionally. Premium models have blindspot detection and an automatic braking system, while flagship Premium SE cars get keyless entry and start, and automatic versions can also park themselves.

Euro NCAP Rating – 5 stars
The Hyundai Tucson (15-20) was tested by Euro NCAP in 2015 and was awarded a 5 star overall rating.
This overall rating is calculated from the following individual ratings:
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP.
These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
