The Lamborghini Urus is based on the Audi Q8 SUV, which means that it’s amply proportioned, despite its sleek looks. That means there’s plenty of room up front for the driver and passenger, with more than enough storage space, too. As well as a large central cubbyhole in the centre console between the seats, there’s also a small storage area behind the infotainment system.

There’s plenty of headroom as well, which adds to the sense of lightness that’s aided by a panoramic sunroof when fitted. It might say Lamborghini on the nose, but there’s no denying this car’s impressive practicality.

The rear is also very roomy for passengers – up to a point. No one will complain about the knee and elbow room, even in five-seat configuration. But headroom suffers for the car’s sweeping roofline. If you’re over six-feet tall and in the rear, prepare to get familiar with the roof lining. That’s the only issue we have with the Urus’s accommodation.

Boot space is impressive too – certainly in context with this car’s towering performance. The aperture is wide and low, while at 616 litres with the seats up, it’s more than capable of swallowing most ‘normal’ loads. With the seats folded, that rises to 1596 litres, which is enough to put it on a par with most family estates, if not its largest SUV rivals. For example, the Bentley Bentayga’s boot is an even more capacious 1,774 litres.

For those to whom this matters, the good news is that the luggage area is also well shaped as well as nicely sized, and if you have any difficulty loading it, you can open the tailgate with a gesture (a waggle of the foot under the rear bumper) and lower the air suspension to ease entry.

Safety

Although the Urus has not been tested by Euro NCAP we’re very confident that it’s a very safe car. Aside from the amazing handling and braking capabilities of this car, it also shares much under-the-skin technology with the Audi Q8, and as such is bristling with all the latest kit.

As standard, it comes with autonomous emergency braking and lane-departure warning as you’d expect, but you can also get it with adaptive cruise control that automatically steers within the lanes, detects lane markings, roadside structures, vehicles in adjacent lanes and vehicles driving ahead.

The standard Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) also include front and rear parking sensors and forward collision warning. There’s also Blind-spot Monitoring as standard, as well as optional driver-assistance features that include a 360-degree camera system and traffic sign recognition.
