Launched in 2013, the current Lexus IS range of compact executive saloons’ remit is the same as it was when the first generation appeared back in 1999 – to be an alternative to the likes of the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
Today’s Lexus IS range is saloon-only, comprising of petrol-engined IS250 models, and petrol-electric hybrid IS300h versions. From launch the hybrid versions claimed impressive fuel efficiency of 67mpg, combined with very low CO2 emissions of 97g/km. If you hunt out a second generation Lexus IS you’ll also find diesel-powered versions, badged IS220d.
As cars in this market sector go, it’s especially distinctive, with a large ‘spindle’-shaped grille and styling creases all over the bodywork. At the front the LED day running lights sit separately in the bumper, shaped like ticks below the headlights.
