Porsche 911 Coupe boot space, practicality and safety

2024 onwards (change model)
Practicality rating: 2.9 out of 52.9

Written by Ted Welford and Alan Taylor-Jones Updated: 13 May 2025

  • Useful amount of space upfront
  • Rear seats not included – but are a no-cost option
  • Front boot is good for a small suitcase

How much space is there?

You’re unlikely to buy a sports car like a Porsche 911 for its spaciousness, but as long as you work with its limitations it can be more practical than you might expect. Space upfront Is more than enough, and given the 911 has grown in size over the years, these greater dimensions equate to an interior that is comfortable for two people to sit upfront without feeling too close.

Rear seats are a no-cost option.

A pair of rear seats used to be standard and it was a no-cost option to take them out. It’s now the other way around, you need to tick the box if you want them. Though they’re highly impractical as it’s a squeeze to get in there and then space is very limited once you are, it could still be worth having them for the odd occasion when you could do with an extra two seats. They also come with isofix sockets to help install a child seat in, something not offered by its two-seat rivals.

Porsche 911 boot space and storage

With the Porsche 911’s engine being at the rear, the boot is under the bonnet. There’s an interior release and button on the key to open it and it’s a useful box storage area with 135 litres of space. You’ll fit a small to medium sized suitcase in there but you’ll struggle with anything larger. Front-engined rivals, such as the Mercedes-AMG GT, are more practical for suitcases and golf bags.

The front boot is big enough for a medium-sized suitcase, but you’ll need to pack light.

Remember there is also the 911’s rear seats (or the space if you haven’t selected the seats as an option) that can be used for further storage if need be. Given it’s a sports car you also get a decent amount of storage, with a big central cupholder for a bottle of water or coffee, though be aware that it doesn’t really work in tandem with the manual as a water bottle would get in the way of changing gear. There’s also a cupholder that pops out of the dash for the front-seat passenger.

Is it easy to park?

By sports car standards the Porsche 911 is quite an easy car to park. From the driver’s seat you get a decent view out with more glass area than in some other rival cars. Front and rear parking sensors are standard, as is a reversing camera.

If you do a lot of urban driving it could also be worth paying for the ‘ParkAssist’ feature, which brings a very useful 360-degree camera system. Active park assist is also available, as is a remote ParkAssist feature, which allows you to use your smartphone to get into tight parking spaces and garages.

Visibility is good by sports car standards.

You might also want to consider the front lift system, which raises the front end at the press of a button and is useful for multi-storey car parks or if you have a steep driveway. That said, we never had a single problem with ground clearance during a week with a Carrera T, which sits as standard on the lower suspension.

Safety

  • Not tested by Euro NCAP
  • Decent amount of safety kit
  • And plenty more is optional

You’re highly unlikely to ever see a Porsche 911 get tested by Euro NCAP, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a safe car as it still has to be crashed and meet various legal requirements so that it can be sold.

Standard safety kit includes lane keep assisttraffic sign recognitionautonomous emergency braking and driver awareness detection – all features that are mandatory on every new car these days.

Further optional features include lane change assist and adaptive cruise control, with the latter worth choosing for those who intend to use their cars for motorway journeys.
