Should you buy one?

If you want the best new sports car, you’ve found it with the Porsche 911. There’s nothing quite like it. It remains an involving sports car that just so happens to have become a luxury product over time, and the latest revisions only enhance the experience, putting it ahead of the Mercedes-AMG GT and Aston Martin Vantage

A hybrid 911 might not sound very exciting, but trust Porsche to develop a system like this on track before offering a version perfected for the road. You don’t have to stretch all the way to a GTS or GT3, though. A basic Carrera with a few options is a great thing, and the Carrera T adds a manual gearbox and a bit more focus to the driving experience for not much extra.

It is possible to get very carried away with Porsche’s seemingly never-ending options list, to the point you’ll be doubling the price of the car. We can recommend upgrading the seats, adding the Sports Chrono package, sports exhaust and a few luxuries, but you can spend a fortune in extended leather, bodykits and all sorts of other bits and pieces.

What we like

The Porsche 911 remains sensational to drive, with a level of engagement and everyday usability that’s tough to match. We love that Porsche continues to offer a manual gearbox, too, and also the high-quality interior that offers the right balance of sportiness and luxury.

What we don’t like?

The 911 is now more expensive than it’s ever been, and Porsche’s options list remains as ludicrous as ever. There’s also a lot of road noise at speed in this latest generation
