Practicality levels are reasonable but not class-leading. There’s 356 litres of boot space, which can be boosted to 1,305 litres by dropping the 60:40 split rear seats. Note, however, that they don’t fold flat – meaning long, heavy items may need to be manhandled into the available load bay.
Other small SUVs aimed at families such as the Renault Captur and Mitsubishi ASX offer more outright luggage room but the Mokka X has enough for day-to-day use.
Will my luggage fit?
There are plenty of small storage cubbies to tuck things away into in the front of the car, plus good-sized door pockets for those in the back.
The rear seats are spacious and comfortable enough, plus those sat in the middle should be satisfied on short- to medium-distance journeys. Another nice touch is the second row seats positioned higher-up than usual in order to provide a better view forward. However, a high rear doorline means that smaller passengers may struggle to see out of the side windows.
Also be aware of the chunky rear doors hindering access in tight spaces. It’s not the end of the world, but could make loading a car seat into the back an unnecessarily tricky task.
Vauxhall Mokka X safety
Expected three- or four-star Euro NCAP crash rating
Lack of autonomous safety kit limits score
Two Isofix points in total
While the Vauxhall Mokka X hasn’t been put through the Euro NCAP testing regime, its predecessor the 2012 Mokka did very well indeed, scoring the maximum five stars – albeit in an easier testing era. As with the old car you get front, side impact, and curtain bags, plus Isofix child seat mounts for the outer rear seats.
You also get electronic stability control as standard plus hill start assist and traction control, making it easier to complete manoeuvres in tricky situations. However, many forms of autonomous safety tech are not available on the Mokka X, limiting the maximum safety rating which the car can achieve. Rival cars have gadgetry such as autonomous emergency braking, blindspot monitoring and lane departure warning in order to try and prevent accidents, thus improving their Euro NCAP rating.

Euro NCAP Rating – 5 stars
The Vauxhall Mokka X (16-19) was tested by Euro NCAP in 2012 and was awarded a 5 star overall rating.
This overall rating is calculated from the following individual ratings:
Euro NCAP provides motoring consumers with a realistic and independent assessment of the safety performance of some of the most popular cars sold in Europe.
The safety ratings are determined from a series of vehicle tests, designed and carried out by Euro NCAP.
These tests represent, in a simplified way, important real life accident scenarios that could result in injured or killed car occupants or other road users.
