The minimum boot volume in the A4 is 480 litres – ahead of key rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The boot is user-friendly too with a flat and wide floor plus an optional luggage pack can be chosen, including a net, retaining hooks and a 12-volt power socket. Luggage capacity is increased to 962 litres with the rear seats folded plus there’s the option of a ‘ski hatch’ from the boot to the passenger compartment through the rear armrest.

The glove compartment is a decent size as are the door bins.

Safety

The A4 received a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating in the new more stringent tests introduced in 2009. Audi A4 safety has been enhanced by electronic stability control, anti-whiplash head restraints and six airbags. It can also be specified with the optional adaptive cruise control (which maintains a set distance with the vehicle in front), a system that warns the driver when another vehicle is in the blindspot and a lane-departure warning system that vibrates through the steering wheel if the car crosses a line on the road without indicating.

There are Isofix child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats, and additional points on the front passenger seat can be specified at no extra cost.
