Should you buy one?

It would be doing the E-Tron Sportback a disservice to say it is essentially the same car as its SUV counterpart, but with a different roof. Granted, that is the most substantial variation between the two, but there are many other smaller changes that add up to a sizably more stylish and sporty car than its boxier relative. But you’ll be paying handsomely for the premium.

There’s the upmarket S Line standard trim for a start, and a stiffer suspension set up that allows for a pointier driving experience. As a used car, it offers a lot of image and presence for your money, but at the same time, younger and newer alternatives such as the Kia EV6, Skoda Enyaq Coupe and Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback are a much better bet for your money.

What we like

And at its heart the E-Tron Sportback is a relaxed and refined electric car – it might not offer the same straight line acceleration or cornering agility as its rivals, but those things are not the top of everyone’s list of priorities.

What we don’t like

It won’t go far for your money, and although it has a massive battery pack (between 71 and 95kWh), such is its inefficiency, the real-world range is less than 200 miles. The replacement Q8 E-Tron is much improved in this department.
