FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the Audi Q3

  • What is the Audi Q3?
  • The Q3 is Audi's second smallest SUV. It's larger than the Q2, but smaller than the Q6, Q7, and Q8.

In terms of measurements, it’s a smallish-sized SUV that goes toe to toe with the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and MINI Countryman.
  • Which versions of the Audi Q3 are available?
  • The Q3 comes in two body styles - a regular five-door and a Sportback version. The 'normal' Q3 is like a normal SUV, while the Sportback is essentially an SUV with a coupe-style body.

Audi offers lots of different engines. At time of writing, there are 30 different engine and gearbox combinations for the Q3. They comprise of petrols and diesel engines, as well as manual and automatic gearboxes. Petrol engines range from 150hp - 400hp, while diesels range from 150hp - 190hp. Four-wheel drive options are available for petrol and diesel cars.

Trim levels tend to change on Audis quite regularly. At launch there was an Edition 1 special edition, but expect to find regular Sport, S Line, and Vorsprung models too.
  • What is the Audi Q3 Performance Version?
  • The performance version of the Audi Q3 is called the RSQ3, although describing it merely as the performance version might be diminishing its level of athleticism.

The RSQ3 is powered by a 400hp five-cylinder turbocharged engine that propels it from 0-62mph in 4.5seconds.Understandably, this performance is pretty extreme, and it's controlled by Audi's four-wheel drive system called Quattro.

It's also available as a Sportback. No matter which version a driver picks, they'll be treated to a real aural pleasure, as well as chassis that's as grippy as super-fast SUVs come.
  • Is the Audi Q3 good to drive?
  • Broadly, yes. It's certainly errs on the side of comfort rather than driver involvement, as you'd imagine for a premium SUV. The majority of its controls (like the steering, pedals and gearshift) are light, easy and accurate. It's not as fun to drive as something like a BMW X1 or X2.

The two entry-level engines are prefixed with '35' to signify their power output in kW, equating to 150hp. They consist of a 1.5-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel, both of which make 150hp. Both of these engines are slightly louder than the competition, but are fine for the majority of people.

More powerful engines, both in petrol and diesel flavour, are on offer. These are perfect if you're the type of person that prefers a bit more punch for overtaking.
  • Should I buy an Audi Q3?
  • Yes, especially if you're keen on high quality interiors. The Q3 is also one of the most practical cars in its class, and there is plenty of choice when it comes to power and trim options. If you're on a budget, we'd recommend a Sport model with the 35 TFSI engine. This is fast enough and frugal enough for most people. If Sport isn't quite special looking enough, we'd recommend S Line. Company car drivers will be pleased to learn the 35 TFSI has a low BIK rating.

High mileage drivers will be better off with a diesel. We recommend the 35 TDI because of its superior fuel economy.
