Welcome back to Lease of the Week, our series for showcasing the best car leasing deals on the net. We’re looking at one of the leanest cars to lease on the road for this week’s entry, and covering off the always-popular small car segment.
Last week, it was the premium and quirky Smart #1 that caught my eye – a cool all-electric SUV with top-quality interior. This week it’s a car with a slightly disappointing interior finish, but for less than £140 per month, it’s one of the cheapest ways to get behind the wheel of a brand-new car.

It’s an old-school take on the supermini formula, offering no form of hybrid assistance at all. All i20s use a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine, partnered to either a six-speed manual, or seven speed automatic gearbox. Of these we’d recommend avoiding the automatic option if you can help it, it’s jerky and spoils what is an otherwise nice driving experience.
Otherwise, it’s a fairly run-of-the mill supermini, making it a safe bet for smaller families. You get five seats, five doors and a generous five-year warranty. Boot space is serviceable at 352 litres, while the interior space is good considering its size. The quality of some of the interior fittings leaves a little to be desired, but it at least looks smart and modern.
It’s the entry-level Advance models that boast the best leasing rates of less than £150 per month, but Hyundai’s traditionally excellent equipment levels mean you won’t be left lacking. There’s standard-fit air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, LED lights and a slew of safety tech. There’s also a 10.25-inch touchscreen complete with in-built sat nav and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is a lot of useful and desirable features in such an affordable monthly package.
In the super competitive small car leasing market, price is everything and it’s here that the i20 makes even more sense. Against our current class favourites – the Renault Clio and Citroen C3 – the i20 starts at close to £40 less per month to lease. Even the cheap-as-chips, always-on-discount Vauxhall Corsa will set you back at least another £20 per month.
In fact, at the time of writing, only the Dacia Spring and Hyundai i10 are cheaper to lease per month. The former isn’t a car we’d recommend in any capacity, while the latter another Hyundai, albeit smaller.
