  • Cabin matches petrol-powered C4
  • Massive, comfortable seats
  • Digital instrument cluster is standard

How is the quality and layout?

This is by no means the freshest interior anymore, but it’s a good blend of digital and physical controls. A digital instrument display is standard, while there’s a sizeable central touchscreen and a modern gear selector. However, Citroen has gone against the fashion for putting heater controls in the touchscreen, and the rotary switches are a welcome addition.

The driving position is good, although it’s very much an SUV-style perch with the seat placed higher above the road than you might expect. That means visibility is good, but even better is the seating, with front seats that feel more like armchairs. The interior is also more solid than some might expect, with better material and build quality than Citroens are usually associated with. It’s a step up from an MG4, if not as plush as a BYD Dolphin.

Infotainment and tech

The predominant feature of the e-C4 cabin is the central touchscreen, which is a standard feature across the range. The 10.0-inch display houses all the usual media systems, plus the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration systems, as well as Bluetooth connectivity. The screen isn’t the e-C4’s best feature, though, with some blocky graphics and slightly sluggish response at times.

The infotainment display is easy enough to navigate through.

In front of the driver, meanwhile, a 7.0-inch display houses all of the driving instruments for all but base models which get a 5.0-inch unit. The bigger display is certainly adequate, and easier to read than the smaller display, but it isn’t as customisable as some competitor models’ systems. High-end models also get a clear head-up display, which really helps the situation.

Comfort

  • Great seats
  • Spacious cabin
  • Supple ride

The e-C4 cabin is focused primarily on comfort, and that’s evidenced in the size of those front seats. Wide, soft and surprisingly supportive, they’re incredibly comfortable things to sit in, and they make long journeys much easier than many competitor cars. The secret, it seems, is the high-density foam that lies below a 15mm layer of textured foam just beneath the upholstery.

The majority of models in the e-C4 range come with cloth seats and leather-effect trim, and though it feels quite hardwearing it’s still very comfortable. Opt for a more luxurious model, however, and you get full fake leather upholstery with grey contrast stitching.

The seats certainly contribute to the overall comfort value of the driving experience.

Every model comes with height-adjustable front seats and lumbar support for the driver, although only the top-spec MAX model comes with electrically heated front seats and a folding arm rest for rear-seat passengers. MAX also gets more sound insulation to boost refinement.
