Nissan Qashqai: Long distance travel

To the South coast and back

Having given the Qashqai a fair amount of local and rural use, it was time to stretch its legs. A 350-mile round trip to the South coast gave me the perfect opportunity. And once again the Nissan proved impressively capable.

Despite spending the best part of five to six hours continuous driving, I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of fatigue and rear end ache often associated with long driving stints. For standard (non-leather) seats, the Qashqai has a great balance of comfort and support.

Economical too...

Fuel consumption has become something everyone is concerned with and the Nissan's has turned out to pretty good. If the fuel gauge is anything to go by, we used slightly more than half a tank on a 370-mile round trip. I reckon you could easily get 650+ miles on a tank.

I worked out that the Qashqai is averaging around 45.6mpg. Not bad when Nissan reckons it should return 54.3mpg. When I've had four passengers on board (plus luggage) the 1.5 dCi engine does have to work harder. However it copes well and still returns good mpg. Acceleration is noticeably slower though and you have to give yourself a few more seconds if overtaking.
