Should you buy one?

The Tesla Model X is a highly impressive vehicle that is comfortable, cossetting and swift. The ownership proposition is still pretty much unrivalled, thanks to its intelligent use of tech, and a Supercharger network that’s a joy to use.

So, based on our experiences of the slightly smaller Audi E-Tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Mercedes-Benz EQC, would we buy a Model X over them? We might consider it, but there are even better options out there such as the Kia EV6, while the upcoming Volvo EX90 could be an even better seven seater.

What we like

The acceleration times of the latest versions are supercar fast and there are plenty of choices when it comes to interior layout. The Supercharger network is still the best and some of the driver assistance aids can take the strain out of long journeys.

What we don’t like

It doesn’t ride or handle as well as some electric rivals costing much less, and build quality isn’t up to scratch, either. While the electrically operated second and optional third rows are nice in theory, the middle chairs don’t fold flat. We’d also like a bit more space in that third row, it really is best left to children.
