Fuel economy

A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test. Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 26 - 29 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

A strong demand for the previous generation model means that prices remain firm. With numbers in the UK restricted (there was an allocation of approximately 1450 a year), expect a similar story for this car. While fuel consumption is a little high for a family hatchback - expect 29 mpg in everyday driving - it's not excessive and comparable to rivals.

Volkswagen dealers can be pricey when it comes to parts and servicing though.

The R32 is a polluting model with an average of 243g/km CO2. It's also pretty thirsty, averaging 28mpg.

This generation of Golf is proving to be very reliable and even though the R32 is a performance model, we're expecting to offer as good durability.
