- Ford Edge to go on sale in Europe for the first time
- Large SUV is part of a wider programme to extend 4x4 offering
- Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week
The Ford Edge is coming to the UK next year as part of a wider programme by the firm to offer an extended range of all- or four-wheel drive cars.
By early 2016 eight blue oval cars will come with power to both axles, compared with three in 2013, driving 4x4 sales up by 50 percent.
First glimpse in September
We’ll see the Euro-spec Edge at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week and the good news for company car drivers is that it will offer a stylish design, car‑like driving dynamics and high fuel efficiency.
Based on the Mondeo platform, the large SUV will sit above the EcoSport compact crossover and Kuga SUV in the firm's current line up.
Now in its second generation, the Edge will feature as standard Ford’s Intelligent AWD technology.
It takes a measurement every 16 milliseconds on how the car’s wheels are gripping the surface and adjusts the distribution of power between front and rear axles.
