The latest Volkswagen Touareg is now gaining a little extra luxury with the arrival of a new range-topping trim – R-Line Plus.
As the name suggests, the Touareg R-Line Plus uses the R-Line specification as its starting point and adds more equipment and styling touches inside and out.
Like the rest of the range, the Touareg R-Line Plus comes with a 3-litre V6 diesel under the bonnet, available with two power outputs to choose from – 201bhp and 258bhp.
Despite the latter’s extra performance, there’s only 1g/km of CO2 between these two engines at 174g/km and 173g/km for the lower-powered version; both cars slot into a 34 percent BIK tax band for the current 2016/17 year. Fuel economy is identical at 42.8mpg and both engines are accompanied by an eight-speed automatic as standard.
With P11D prices starting from £48,040, tax costs for a 20 percent payer start from £272 a month.
According to the German car maker, the extra equipment has a value of £3,255 if specified separately, but the premium over the Touareg R-Line is just £1,160.
Among the extras are upgraded 21-inch alloys, Piano Black finishes in the cabin, 14-way electrically adjustable seats and Vienna leather upholstery.
The firm’s Area View technology is also standard which utilises front, rear and side cameras to provide a 360-degree bird’s-eye exterior view that is displayed on the Touareg’s infotainment screen.
All of this new equipment is applied on top of the standard equipment on the Volkswagen Touareg R-Line. This includes lowered sports suspension, R-Line body styling, a panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, black roof-lining, a heated steering wheel, electric tailgate and keyless entry.
The new R-Line Plus trim is expected to account for around half of Touareg sales, and is available to order now.
