The MINI Clubman City is now on sale with company car drivers in mind, offering affordable running costs and additional kit for those who spend more of their time on the road.
Turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines are available, with very similar performance. The diesel has the advantage with a 0-62mph of 10.1 seconds. Customers looking for an automatic gearbox can have one on the petrol engine only, which is also the slowest at 11.3 seconds to 62mph.
Power output for the diesel is rated at 116hp with torque at 270Nm, while the petrol produces 102hp and 190Nm of torque.
How much does the MINI Clubman City cost in BIK tax?
As of July 2018, all vehicles in the MINI range have been tested to meet WLTP requirements. This quirky family car with its split rear doors claims to achieve 68.9mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 109g/km in diesel form.
Opt for the petrol and you’ll see CO2 emissions rise to 131g/km with the manual gearbox and 130g/km for the petrol automatic. Fuel economy figures with the manual gearbox drop to 48.7mpg and 49.6mpg with the automatic.
Convert these CO2 figures into BIK tax bands and this results in a 26% rate for the diesel and 27% for the petrol, based on 2018/19 rates.
Despite commanding the lower BIK rate, the higher P11D on the diesel makes it the most expensive per month, costing under £104 per month for a 20% taxpayer.
Opt for the petrol with a manual gearbox and you’ll save over £14 per month. Plus, with current petrol prices cheaper than diesel, it’s worth calculating how much mileage you’ll need to cover to recoup the potential savings.
