PCP: Dacia Sandero - £90/month

Best new car for less than £90 a month for: low overall cost to buy

Dacia Sandero finance

The Dacia Sandero is far from the smallest new car you can buy, but it’s the UK’s cheapest new car in cash terms and one of the most affordable to finance.

Go for the entry-level Access on a 49-month, 6,000-mile-per-year contract and monthly payments come in at a mere £90, even with a small £830 deposit.**

For this you get a 75hp 1.0-litre petrol model in entry-level Access trim, meaning there’s barely any standard kit – with no air conditioning, radio or Bluetooth, for instance.

Put down £1,800, however, and the same monthly payment gets you the Sandero in much better equipped Essential trim with metallic paint. If you can stretch to that, you get a lot more car for your money here.**

Best new car under £90 a month for: ease of driving

The i10 may be pricier than the Dacias above – you’ll need to put down £2,200 to get it for £90 per month (on a four-year contract with a 6,000-mile-per-year limit) – but it feels like a much higher quality car.**

This cute city car offers a surprising amount of space inside plus electric front windows, a trip computer, remote central locking, split-folding rear seats and six airbags in S trim.

PCP finance tips: consider monthly payments, contract length AND deposit

Mercedes-AMG S 65 Coupe

Have a budget of £90 per month for a new car? You can afford to finance a £216,000 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Coupe. Oh, you’ll also need a £147,000 deposit.**

Think that’s sneaky? Well, this is why you need to consider not only the monthly payments, but also the deposit, contract length and mileage allowance when comparing finance deals – as these all affect the cost.

Remember that dealers often cut monthly payments by bumping up the deposit, or lengthening the contract. Shrinking the mileage allowance is another way salespeople can hide bad value deals – where the price might be low, but you don’t get much for your money.
