That I know my cars and I bought a good vehicle which has reliability, driver appeal and good looks with the added bonus of practicality and economy.

They adore it. Get so much attention and compliments because of the badge and condition. Even though it was a cheap car.

Absolutely. No doubts!

Did you get a good deal and why?

Bought it from a trader. Showed me his workshop and is a stock-car champion. Similar cars were priced at around 200 or so pounds more with higher miles and worse condition etc. Also as regards to other cars I looked at people wanted to much for a car with little or no MOT and little or no tax.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Car was in fantastic condition and I have a soft spot for the E36 shape. Dealer was excellent and honest and the presentation of the car was brilliant. Even at 12 years old the car has a full BMW service history and a comprehensive collection of receipts etc. With my budget I had looked at a lot of sheds and I thought I may have to find another 500 or so pounds to get such a car as this.

What was the dealer like?

Spot-on. Would use again in a hearbeat. Excellent service and helped me free of charge a few times even for a sub 1000 pound car.

What's it like to drive?

In the town it's easy to drive and park. Ample power and every control e.g gearbox is slick/light without feeling artificial. Comfy at cruising speeds with firm but never harsh suspension. No pocket-rocket but not bad on the fuel so makes up for it. Lovely to drive and belies it's age.

What's it like to park?

Not bad but beware of the long bonnet.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Seized calipers due to the age of them and the winter conditions/salt. Brake wear sensor was faulty. Nothing for a 12 year old car.

What's most practical about your car?

Boot is better than you may think.

Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Standard sound system is fantastic. Better than even some brand new cars.
