  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Mine's in red and debadged, so it looks a bit like a company sales fleet 316i. This is fine; I like being understated. The look on people's faces when it blows them away is priceless. I think people who buy 330d's are those who want a sports car, but don't want the high fuel consumption that usually goes with them.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Friends and family really enjoy traveling in it and all have commented on how comfortable it is. Neighbors probably think it's a company car :).

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. When the time comes to trade in, I may go for the 330d M sport touring, which should be more affordable by then.

What are you likely to buy next?

Who knows? But I wouldn't hesitate to get another 330d.

  • Buying experience

    4 out of 5 4.0

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £21,750

When did you buy the car?

    November 2014

Did you get a good deal and why?

This was the cheapest F30 (new shape) 330d available anywhere (including private), so I was happy. 3% further reduction, £110 road tax and full tank of fuel thrown in.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Going from 3 door small hot hatch to a more spacious 4 door family car due to expanding family.

    What was the dealer like?

Courteous, friendly and professional, though a little bit pushy when it came to "extras" like Supaguard and RTI Gap Insurance.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Two words - Effortless performance. Plant the throttle and there's about a 2 second delay while the large turbo spools up and the 8-speed box selects the right gear. From then on, it's relentless thrust until 120mph or when you lose your nerve, whichever comes sooner! I have come from a lifetime of owning fast FWD hatchbacks, so at first I was unsure of whether I would like driving a RWD. I needn't have worried - the traction control does a flawless job of keeping the rear end pinned, even in the wet.

    What's it like to park?

With a high waistline and a large boot sticking out from beneath the rear window, it's a lot harder to park than a hatchback. Thankfully, technology comes to the rescue. Parking sensors front and rear are standard on the SE. The optional rear-view camera (which mine doesn't have) would also be useful. Large door mirrors offer good visibility, though.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

    No

What's most practical about your car?

Plenty of space in the back, easy to get toddler in and out of it. Decent sized boot can swallow 2 full sized strollers with room to spare. Rear seats don't fold (folding seats on the saloon is standard only from 2013 on, apparently) which restricts what can be carried.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Where do I start? Harman Kardon Sounds system is incredible. Really bassy and clear. Bluetooth telephone function works seamlessly and adaptive xenon lights do a great job of lighting the road ahead.
