BMW X3 SUV xDrive20d xLine auto 5d Owner Review

The X3 is very refined and comfortable vehicle - a lovely place to be when travelling. My passengers have all remakes how smooth and quietly it rides, which is very good for a vehicle equipped with run flat tyres. The steering has the tendency to feel over light and sometimes requires slight adjustment when travelling in a straight line. This is worsened by road cambers - I have put it down to the electric powered steering and not a tracking issue as all tyres are wearing flat and even across their treads. I use the X3 to tow a single axle touring caravan and as a positive it’s economy whilst towing, is excellent averaging over 30mpg. The stability whilst towing is good but not as confidence inspiring when compared to the Land Rover Freelander 2.2D (2009) model owned and used for towing for 9 years. I owned a 2016 BMW X1 2.5D prior to the X3 and whilst this was a good car it suffered several problems and wasn’t as refined as the X3. My wife, who suffers from back issues, could never get comfortable in the X1 whereas she can really enjoy journeys of 300 miles plus in the X3. I purchased the X3 as an approved used car from a main BMW dealership, so choice of extras was as ordered by the original and first owner. Luckily his choice very much mirrored the choices I would have made, the two main essentials I had set in a search being a sunroof and factory fit electrically deployable tow bar. A load of other goodies the first owner had added has made for a very enjoyable vehicle to own. No hesitation in recommending.
