• Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

This is not a statement car.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Most have something similar, and appreciate its necessity.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Unfortunately its not available anymore. The closet thing would be the Toyota Land Cruiser, which is superior, but vastly more expensive.

What are you likely to buy next?

No plans to change as long as the fourtrak is road worthy.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £9,000

When did you buy the car?

    May 1998

Did you get a good deal and why?

It had been owned by someone who realised that it wasn't really the luxury 4x4 they wanted. So they were happy to get rid of it, and gave a good deal.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

It was one of the few real "jeeps" that you could still buy. It is also one the last of the breed that can be fixed up without an expensive trip to the garage.

    What was the dealer like?

  • Driving it

    3 out of 5 3.0

    What's it like to drive?

On the road it can only be described as agricultural. It is slow, sounds rough and the steering is a bit like a tractor. But it is an excellent tower, and off road work horse, which is what its really designed for.

    What's it like to park?

Never really tried to park it in a confined space, but visibility would not be great.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

It has had a very tough life. There has been a lot of towing of heavy loads, including a double horse box, cattle, and even a huge grass roller. But despite this it has held up well. Small things like filters have needed to be changed, but otherwise the reliability has been bullet proof.

What's most practical about your car?

This is a genuine work horse. It has selectable four wheel drive, and a low ratio gearbox. The offroad abilities are very good, given the complete lack of modern technology, and it is very good for towing.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Hardly a gadget, but the low ratio gear box is excellent.
