Other Honda Accord (1998 - 2003) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

The car is a little bit different, quite rare, so seems to suggest that the driver doesn't want to drive what the rest of the sheep drive!

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

It has been called American, a pimpmobile and a cruiser by friends! :) Family think it is more expensive than what I paid for it. The neighbours look down on it because it isn't a brand new Bavarian saloon, but then the majority of Suburbia have the same herd mentality.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Perhaps, though by the time I come to replace it (hopefully in a fair few years) it will be a bit long in the tooth. If Honda had made another large Coupe in later years (Accord/Prelude/Integra) I would consider, but there are few large Japanese coupes of recent years.

What are you likely to buy next?

When the time comes, possibly consider an Accord saloon, or perhaps the Laguna coupe if it has came down in price by then.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £1,400

When did you buy the car?

    March 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Got a good deal. Dealer himself was using the car as his daily driver, keeping it serviced and could vouch that it drove perfectly. Bit of haggling and got a decent price.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I bought this car as I wanted a big, relaxing automatic for town driving, but I also wanted something a little different from the rest of the silver German-saloon-filled car park.

    What was the dealer like?

    Dealer was fair.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Big effortless car to drive. More of a cruiser / grand tourer than a sports coupe though! But the comfortable suspension is very Citroen-like, not like the current trend for overly-stiff sports suspension. In town, the automatic gearbox really helps with stop-start traffic, your left leg can just take a rest. On the motorway, a fantastic cruiser, will easily cruise at illegal speeds, so keep an eye!

    What's it like to park?

Not the easiest car to park, but then no worse than any large coupe/saloon/4x4. The high rear boot means reversing needs judgement, the big long doors do mean that tight spaces aren't an option unless you are size-0 and can hold a door! Be careful with the doors in wind too! Lack of door rubbing strips mean that it gets the occasional small parking dent from ignorant drivers opening their door into yours!

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Touch wood, nothing has gone wrong. The fuel gauge doesn't go below 1/4 full, but so long as I top up at 1/4 and keep an eye on the mileage, it hasn't been an issue so far. I've heard much about Honda reliability, and this has been the first cheap used car I've bought that hasn't needed major work immediately after purchase!

What's most practical about your car?

For a 2+2 coupe, the rear seats are very accommodating (compared to the likes of my old GTV or a friends old Supra). More like the old 2 door saloons of old in this regard. Boot is also a good size, though it is a saloon and not a hatchback, so don't expect to get a big square box in! Seats do fold down for flatpack furniture (which is more practical than the other half's Fiesta!).

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

So many gadgets, all fully functional! Cruise control turns out to be handy on nighttime motorways, and the air conditioning is nice all year round (though the already low MPG does take a hit!).
