  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

I like Honda and I want to try Hybrid technology without trying to look Green as with Prius owners.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

    They are jealous.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would if they made an Estate version and mated it with a Diesel engine.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI Tourer

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    £6,499

When did you buy the car?

    May 2006

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think so. Price was fairly low, even though mileage was high (83,414). Felt pressured into buying an extended warranty.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Huge Honda fan and wanted to see what it was like to own a Hybrid, as I think it's a really good idea.

    What was the dealer like?

    Friendly, but wouldn't haggle.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

A lot of acceleration for such a small engine! The IMA electric motor delivers full torque from zero revs, so it feels as if you are driving a 1.8l engine. Fuel economy is very impressive, but drops if you drive over the speed limit. I find the 55MPG is quite easily attainable. Lovely and quiet with excellent cornering. You do know about it if you ever manage to flatten the main battery, which I have only ever done once and it was because I tried to.

    What's it like to park?

Turning circle is not so great, probably due to the regenerative braking system. Font visibility is excellent, thanks to a very short bonnet. Rear vis not so good for parking, as it has a very high boot, probably for better aerodynamics. You can do fine using the boot lid spoiler and wing mirrors though.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Nothing at all. The only thing that has been replaced is the small battery, which tends to get flattened very quickly if you leave the ignition turned on. Would recommend a Calcium battery if you have one of these cars.

What's most practical about your car?

Smooth, quiet and comfortable. Great for long motorway journeys and as a runabout. Brake pads last for ages, must be because you are always using the regenerative braking system so much and because you start braking much earlier than you normally would, in order to recover as much energy as possible. The only thing that makes this car different from any other car is the main battery indicator light. The IMA battery is built into the back seat and takes up very little boot space or rear legroom.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The auto-stop feature is wonderful, as is the way the IMA motor starts the car. I love seeing people's faces when they get into the car and it appears to move off without starting! The charge and assist lights are fun and you find yourself playing with them, trying to keep your battery fully charged.
