Honda Civic Type R 2001-

  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Nothing similar on my shortlist to match for the money.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

A bit expensive in terms of mpg (when driven how it's meant to be), insurance, tyres etc but I expected all this and wouldn't have had it if I couldn't manage.

  • On the road

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

A car that you go driving in for no reason. However, steering is a little vague and uncommunicative, you don't get the signals about what's going on at the limit until it's a bit late I find. I am learning more about the handling every day.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Flatter torque curve than old VTEC's means you don't have to drive like you're on a qualifying lap, even though you still will!

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Gets thrashed mercilessly every time I go out in it (except when the wife is onboard) and not one complaint, it's what they're built for, just let it warm up and service it well.

    Image

    5 out of 5 5.0

Opinion is divided but I like it sharp, pointy and purposeful looking. Used to be regarded as a pensioners car but mine growls at passers by.

    Comfort

    2 out of 5 2.0

One problem the wife won't let me 'drive' it when she's in so I tend to get caught by Metro drivers and caravan club members! You really need to be alone for the most fun!

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Okay as far as I know.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Big up to Stuart Grahams of Nantwich, friendly and attentive.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Phenomenal. Utterly bullet proof in the face of extreme conditions (my right foot).

    Other

Loose speaker bolt, the only warranty issue in 2 years of ownership.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    New

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
