Other Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2010) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Don't really care what others think. I'm in my Jag and happy. They probably think I'm old, but who cares...

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Absolutely love it. I've converted at least three people to looking next time they change cars.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Definitely. Would like the Auto box on the 2.0L engine as it's a bit more efficient than the 2.2 and lower tax. £120 a year to drive a Jaguar - does it get any better?

What are you likely to buy next?

Another X-Type for myself - maybe the estate with 4wd option. Bought a 4x4 for those days in the Lakes..

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £6,495

When did you buy the car?

    July 2007

Did you get a good deal and why?

Having looked around for a while, it offered the best deal I could find. The car came with a full Jaguar Service history and a comprehensive list of everything it ever had done to it. It had high miles, but ran like the brand new demonstrator I drove.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I'd always loved Jaguars. I had a 3.6L XJ-S (and membership of OPEC!) and adored it. Needed a more practical car, hence the X-Type.

    What was the dealer like?

The dealer was excellent, very helpful especially given the distance from home. Did most of the work over the phone and had everything ready when collection day arrived.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

I wasn't expecting much from a 2L diesel after the XJS and a V6 MG, but what a surprise! This thing fair flies. 1st and 2nd are a bit short, but get into third and fourth and you're away. No need to change down to overtake in 5th, even at 50. Push the pedal and glide effortlessly to more than the law allows.

    What's it like to park?

The rear parking sensors are great. Continuous beep at exactly a foot away - measure it with a ruler! Would like them at the front too, although the nose is MUCH shorter than the XJS.......

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Only the usual Ford problem of the dynamic flywheel. Go for a late 54 plater and you shouldn't have a problem. Still, it lasted longer than the same engine does in a Mondeo, it must be Jag's refinement.

What's most practical about your car?

Massive boot space - apparently the biggest you can get in any current saloon Jaguar. Fits four in very comfortably with oodles of space. Easily gets 600 miles on a tank. Drove for two weeks around the lanes of Snowdonia, up and down mountain passes with four in the car and the air con always on, then down to Torquay and home via Lincolnshire - more than 1500 mile. Filled the tank 3 times. 'nuff said.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Love the heated seats in the Winter we've just had. The traction control made easy work of the heavy snow we've had in the NE these last months. Why don't more manufacturers use heated front windscreens - it's superb!
