• Summary

What does this car say about you?

Well I'm only 20, so it probably says I'm a bit of a cad if anything.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

The subtle evolution of Jaguar styling means they think it is newer than it really is. Neighbors think it cost a fortune. I don't tell them otherwise. Police assume I'm doing something illegal. I park in the lecturers spaces at university and nobody has ever said anything.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, I love XJ's and will probably buy another later model.

What are you likely to buy next?

2003-2009 Jaguar XJ. Definitely a V8 model, the big engines are sublime.

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,000

When did you buy the car?

    February 2012

Did you get a good deal and why?

I think I got an excellent deal as the car has one of the most outstanding service history files to be found anywhere. It's got a great specification too, over £6,000 worth of options!

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

I always wanted a Jaguar, the image appealed to me.

    What was the dealer like?

Dealer was pleasant and fine when buying. Slightly harder to pin down when it needed aftercare.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Great sense of occasion. I look forward to absolutely every journey. Responsive and eager, especially in sport mode. The V8 sounds fabulous when worked hard, spins freely up to the limiter and glides silently when not being exercised. Soft suspension, bit of body roll but it corners neatly for such a big car. Set up is almost neutral, very hard to break the tail loose wet or dry. Nice view over the bonnet to remind you that you are driving something a bit special.

    What's it like to park?

If you keep in consideration that it is a very large car it isn't too bad to park. My particular car has parking sensors which help. Visibility is good and steering is light. Doesn't really fit in a standard supermarket length space though. That big nose will extend out of the space. Looks quite comical parked next to something small.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes, but that is to be expected with a big luxury car of this age. The car telephone seems to work intermittently. I broke a coil spring while driving (a product of the cars huge weight) and the drivers switch pack threw in the towel a few weeks ago. Replacement was £6.00 from a scrap XJ.

What's most practical about your car?

It can carry four adults in comfort. Great comfort. It is the ideal car for a road trip. Boot isn't huge but it is a very useful shape.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Car telephone is pretty cool. It's the handset type with a curly cord. Illegal on the move but makes you feel like the Prime Minister when using it. Electrically operated headrests are wonderfully excessive. Rear blinds are a nice touch too.
