  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

It has a bit of a boy racer image now, but that doesn't phase me in the slightest.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Friends liked it, but they made a point of the bodywork corroding quite often.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Not only WOULD i buy the car again. I AM buying another one. I've had many cars since and nothing even slightly compares. If you're looking at getting the HDi I'd just get a 307 as it's the same engine but a much more modern car that you can pick up for the same price range as a 306 now, but the D Turbo is second to none, It's literally the leader of old diesels and it looks fantastic for it's age.

What are you likely to buy next?

Peugeot 306 D Turbo. No argument.

  • Driving it

    What's it like to drive?

Amazing to drive for a small hatchback. Not much power output until the turbo kicks in but it's absolutely glued to the road no matter what you put it under, the gear changes are smooth, and the engine in general is just awe-inspiringly good; on the odd occasion that my foot went to the floor i couldn't help but smile about the fantastic noise it makes - not just for a diesel, but for a small hatchback in general. I must add as well that it's a fantastic cross-country car that can get you down a motorway, effortlessly, comfortably, quickly and worry-free. Mine (which had 150,000 when i bought it) did at least 7,000 miles doing trips from Mansfield to Brighton and back and I never once batted an eyelid or worried about a breakdown. It's just so reliable and takes anything you give to it.

    What's it like to park?

Absolute breeze to park. You can see all of the car from the windows and the dimensions are pretty much straightforward to get used to.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

It was desperately overdue for a service and quite often would pile smoke from the exhaust and not start properly, however that was just the previous owner's lack of TLC to blame, it also needed a new ball joint on the driver's wheel. Other than that, nothing at all.

What's most practical about your car?

The fuel economy for an old diesel was fantastic. It was easily pulling off 40mpg and that was whilst making good use of the turbocharger. If you placed a feather on the accellerator it would breeze the 50mpg mark, and from the top of the fuel gauge redline to bottom I've managed as much as 114 miles!

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

The sunroof is obviously a favourite in the summer. In honesty i just loved the car from the first to last day i had it.
