Some may see it as lacking standard equipment compared to the opposition, but all the bits are of good quality.

Dealer servicing can be pricy - find a good local independent garage.

Steering perhaps a tad too light, but you always know where the wheels are pointing. Very sharp turn in and a nice neutral balance to the handling.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Very quick for a non-sporty 1.6. Engine is flexible. Real Jekyll and Hyde stuff - drives around with no fuss, if you want to pres on, it will surprise you at just how fast it can fly.

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

I've had this car for over 6 years and have kept it so long as it's been very reliable. Watch out for the water pump - the only thing that has gone wrong on mine, and the head gasket went a couple of weeks ago - not bad for 85,000 miles and considering

All a question of opinion, but I think it stands head and shoulders above the likes of Ford and Vauxhall, and with much more style than the German opposition. OK, it's an old design, but it still looks good today.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Good supportive seats, bit a bit more room for the left foot would be welcome. Ride is not as soft as you would expect from a Rover.
