Other Toyota Celica (1994 - 1999) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

With the loud exhaust and white alloy wheels (which, believe it or not look very nice) probably 'chav'. Or that I like coupes but cant afford a GT4 (depressing).

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They love it, think its fast and looks great, this car turns a lot of heads and I get a lot of members of the public coming up and asking me about it, it looks far more expensive than it is (mines black) and when its clean.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes, but it would be the GT4 instead of the this model.

What are you likely to buy next?

    Supra or RX-7.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £800

When did you buy the car?

    October 2011

Did you get a good deal and why?

Average deal really, low mileage, long tax and MOT but needed four new tyres and a new clutch.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Having just got my 3 years no claims and driving slow hatchbacks around for 3 years I wanted to get my first 'sports' car, Ive always liked celica's.

    What was the dealer like?

    A little bit rude.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

This is a typical Japanese sports car, the power is there but you have to rev REALLY hard and high to get it. Despite other reviews it IS a quick car especially for an N/A 2.0, it eats saxo vts' and most hot hatches for breakfast, it also eats rival coupes like the hyundai coupe, ford puma, cougar and probe, vauxhall calibra and fiat coupe (non turbo) for din dins, it isnt however not quite up there with 200sxs', civic type Rs' etc, although I did quite well against my mates integra type R in a straight line race. Mine is slightly modified though, mongoose exhaust system with a decat and panel filter, improved acceleration and throttle responsive a fair bit.

    What's it like to park?

Can be quite awkward as the car feels wider than it is. But the all round view is quite good.

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes, clutch went just days after buying it, a speed sensor needed replacing which was 300 quid, other than that its been fine, rock solid engine and gearbox, she's an old lady so I expected the odd problem here and there, when buying a celica always check the suspension, prone to problems and expensive to fix when it all goes tits up.

What's most practical about your car?

Nothing really, I'm 22 and bought this car purely for the looks and performance (okay its no ferrari, but at my age insurance costs make it impossible to get anything much quicker). For a coupe however it does have a large boot which is handy if you fancy a trip to the shops.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

I like the dashboard and the way the controls are laid out, the design is definitely 'baby supra'.
