Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £0

When did you buy the car?

    January 2010

Did you get a good deal and why?

Got a good price, and hard to find the rarer 2.0 TDI Sport model, especially one not in Silver!

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Previous VW's and other family member has one too.

    What was the dealer like?

Terrible. They stole the compressor between me agreeing to buy (checked it at the time of viewing) and me collecting the vehicle. Rude and denied everything when I discovered it missing. Might be picky, but the compressor is a necessity because there is no spare wheel!

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Surprisingly good. Excellent combination of fun and comfort. Front wheels a little too easy to spin from a standing start, but a FWD 140bhp diesel with plenty of torque is always going to struggle. Cruises on the A-roads and motorways superbly, struggle to keep it down to the speed limit as at 60/70 it feels like it is hardly moving! Barely above 2000rpm in 6th doing 70 makes for very efficient cruising. Happy to cruise at well past 100MPH (where permitted!). Overall average between town/A-roads/motorway of 47 MPG. A-roads I normally get 52-53 and have even achieved 63.5 MPG on a carefully driven A-road 50 mile run. Push it hard on a twisty A-road and you're looking at 30-35.

    What's it like to park?

Fabulous - one of the easiest vehicle around to park with excellent vision all round - even my wife can park it! Variable weight steering (light mode for in town) and excellent turning circle makes parking a doddle. Quite a wide vehicle though for some of the smaller car parks.

Have you had any problems with the car?

Cruise control on/off button intermittent -sorted in 5 mins after finding a fix on the Internet! Some minor annoying things - you almost always lower the drivers seat when you get out due to the position of the lever. The standard fit stereo controls are easy to knock when returning your hand to the wheel after changing gear.

What's most practical about your car?

Flexibility. As useful as a 7-seater MPV as it is a van! So many storage spaces, even I can't fill all the spaces with the junk I carry around! Unlike some of the other small MPV's, rear-most seats can fit adults in them for shorter journeys.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

No. 1 - Dual-zone climate control (Standard only on the Sport model) - she can have it on hot whilst I can be cooled - sure most men can relate to that!! The Sports seats are very comfortable and all very flexible, rear seats recline too. Kids love the tables on the back of the front seats (note: not standard on the 'S' model)
