Other Audi A6 (2004 - 2011) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

That I like quality, good-looking cars.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Everyone I have met seems to be very impressed with it.

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes. I have just driven the new 170 BHP 2.0TDi back-to-back with a BMW 520d, and the A6 feels quicker and lighter to drive, and feels just as involving.

What are you likely to buy next?

I have just ordered a new A6 2.0TDi 170 Le Mans, estimated for delivery at the end of April 2009.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchise

Did you buy this car new?

    Yes

    What price did you pay?

    £28,397

When did you buy the car?

    September 2005

Did you get a good deal and why?

It is a company car, so I was in the great position of not paying for it (apart from via company car tax).

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Lower company car tax than the BMW 525d which was BMW's nearest equivalent at the time.

    What was the dealer like?

The lease company providing the car was easy to deal with.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

Although it's a big car, it shrinks around you when you drive it. It's superb on long motorway journeys, but the S-Line suspension helps cornering on windier roads.

    What's it like to park?

Easy with parking sensors (although without these I would probably struggle with smaller spaces).

  • Living with it

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes. The car has intermittent clutch judder, especially in the wet. The rear lights let in water gradually over time, which eventually gets into the circuit boards and stops the bulbs from working. So far I'm on my fifth set of lights in just over 3 years. Also, the intercooler split and was replaced under warranty, and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve failed at around 55,000 miles, making the car so underpowered it was undriveable and emitted vast clouds of smoke from the exhausts.

What's most practical about your car?

The interior is huge and the boot is cavernous. If you want to fit very long items in, go for the folding rear seats too.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Rear parking sensors are a must with this car, and MMI High (with the corresponding audio upgrade and CD changer) are great.
