In their own words

I bought my S8 as a one owner Audi Approved Used with 6k miles on the clock three years ago. I have been an Audi customer since 2004 because I love their cars and I'm a bit lazy. This S8 replaced my 2010 4.2 TDi A8 of the same shape ("D4" Audi call it I think). The car is wonderful, refined, subtle (as it can be), quiet, comfortable and staggeringly fast. Lets be honest, any car over 500bhp is going to be quick, but the way the 4 litre V8 delivers the power is epic. It's NOT a sports car, but from a standing or a rolling start, very little, barring "proper" supercars, will overhaul you. At an Audi owners event, my car was measured at 3.66seconds 0-62 which is quite a bit faster than the Audi quoted figures! The build quality of the interior is proper high end car stuff, no squeaks, knocks and it all feels very well put together. "Shut lines" and body quality are superb, as is the paintwork and plastic trim like the grille etc. Now, here we get a little more critical. This car costs BIG money to run. Sure, it's thirsty and expensive to insure, we know that but here are some others: 1) This car EATS tyres and they are XL AO tyres and you don't/won't/shouldn't buy non-premium brands so account for £300/corner and remember because it's Quattro, you tend to replace all four together. 2) It also dines frequently on its brakes. They are expensive to replace and, as you'd expect propelling 2 tonnes of aluminium around with 500+hp, they don't really "last". (last oil change service plus new set of front disks and pads cost me £2100) 3) Audi servicing is not mega expensive, but running a car like this expect a service to range from £500-1200 depending on interim/full. Service intervals for me have been around every 10k miles. THERE IS NO SERVICE PLAN FOR S&RS Models 4) Audi Service Quality - While the "front office" service staff are usually excellent, I would strongly advise choosing your dealership carefully to one who sells and maintains "premium" models on a daily basis as engineering staff quality will likely match (I have had problems!). All in all, a superb car and a credit to Audi AG, but due to points 3 & 4, I have just sold my S8 and am moving to Porsche.
