Other Audi A8 (2003 - 2011) models:

  • Summary

    4 out of 5 4.0

What does this car say about you?

Hopefully that I know a bargain when I see one. Problem is that people think they are really expensive just because they are big.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

They think it's fine but big. One friend has found it to be the only car she can travel in the back of without getting sick.

Would you buy this car again and why?

I would probably buy another A8 but would be tempted by a 4.2tdi.

What are you likely to buy next?

Not decided. Will probably go for another used A8 and an old Ford Focus.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Franchised

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £18,000

When did you buy the car?

    November 2009

Did you get a good deal and why?

Deal was good. 2 year unlimited mileage warranty, ski through load facility fitted.

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Was looking for a Mondeo or SMax and saw this. 4 wheel drive was a bonus.

    What was the dealer like?

    Could not fault Epsom Audi.

  • Driving it

    4 out of 5 4.0

    What's it like to drive?

The car is big so narrow roads require a steady approach. Long journeys are the speciality with 40mpg easily achievable in the UK. City driving is fine but economy can easily drop into the low 20mpg. Favourite for me is high speed German Autobahn. This diesel will easily hit the speed limiter and cruise for hours at high three figure speeds.

    What's it like to park?

You will search for spaces on the 6th floor of a multi story and worry about catching the bollards on the up and down ramps. Tesco trips will get you looking for spaces far away from the entrance. I now have an old Clio for shopping trips .. Bodywork dents are expensive to repair on the A8.

  • Living with it

    4 out of 5 4.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

There have been a number of faults but almost all covered on warranty such as faulty door lock, bodywork blemishes, navigation CD with wrong road numbers on. I have paid to replace warped brake discs and a headlight bulb. The car has covered 130,000 miles.

What's most practical about your car?

The size and general comfort. As a LWB version, it is huge inside and great for long journeys. It will take almost as much 'student stuff' as a hatchback and everyone feels like they are in their favourite lounge chair. For long journeys you can spend 15 - 20 hours in the car without any trouble so long European trips are no issue. The car is also SUPERB in snow. You can drive in 30cms snow with winter rubber fitted without any concerns, even on steep mountain roads.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Love the BOSE surround sound and TV.
