In their own words

For a 3 litre Diesel I don’t the fuel return is bad at all mid thirties around town and 50ish on a run. Powerful Diesel engine that can be fun in sports mode with the rather good X-drive it handles pretty well too. Not bad in the snow and ice, it’s no off roader but will climb hills and grip well in bad weather. Spacious inside and well kitted out depending on the specification. Had it over two years and hasn’t missed a beat, brakes on the M-sport are expensive with costs up to £1200 for front and rear discs and pads (don’t buy cheap as your stopping over 250bhp). All in all I would buy again and recommend but you get what you pay for and I would go for the x-drive and the 3.0d as it’s a heavy car and I imagine the smaller engine models feel under powered having owned a 525d previously.
