  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Reasonable value but I bought it from a retired BMW sales manager who picked up clean cars that dealers didn't want.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Most parts reasonably priced from motor factors/Euro car parts.

    Driving

Superb manual gearbox. Clutch action very smooth (because it's hydraulic?) Tail happy in the wet at surprisingly slow speeds, solved by new tyres.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

With 102bhp, still needs the gearbox to be rowed to get it to go.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Hasn't let us down so far (72k miles on clock, bought at 63k).

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Looks a bit dated in comparison with E39 model.

    Comfort

    1 out of 5 1.0

Seats germanicly firm, but that's what I like.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    1 out of 5 1.0

Not needed to find out. Surprised that there was no alarm for such a prestige car.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Not applicable. Do all my own servicing. Surprised dealer had not replaced worn drums previously.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Other

Rear brake drums and one caliper. Front pads sticking: removed/blew out caliper - replaced and now ok.
