  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Pricier than mass markets, but fair for quality and sheer driving satisfaction.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Casts considerably less than VW Golf to service. BMW's Fourplus program for older cars makes BMW maintenance affordable.

    Driving

    5 out of 5 5.0

Sharp, direct steering, fabulous cornering thanks in part to rear wheel drive, power of 6 cylinder makes the most of this. Safe in wet thanks to anti-skid control (which you can turn off if you're confident).

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Smooth surge of power over 3000rpm.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

    So far, so good.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

    Estate has classless image.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Crampt in rear, but who cares? Its a drivers car. Everything directly to hand and where it should be for the driver. A bit like being in a sporty cockpit.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

All immobilised. A lot come with Thatcham alarms.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Exemplary, apart from dealer I bought the car from (Sycamore Peterborough), who refused to replace the CD player which broke less than 3 months after I bought the car, because it wasn't factory fitted. Ironically it had been fitted by that dealer!
