BMW X2 SUV (2018 - 2023) M35i Sport Automatic 5d Owner Review

M35i Sport Automatic 5d
BMW X2 review (2022)

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

I came to this car having previously owned Octavia VRS 4x4 Estate. I wanted to move to something petrol, keeping 4x4 and an estate or hatchback. Looked at Golf R and Leon Cupra, but was disappointed by their interiors - For the same money this X2 M35 is so much nicer inside - Full leather with M Seats - A very nice place to be. Obviously this has a much smaller boot than my previous car, day to day this isn't an issues, but when going away for a weekend (I have a labrador) only the dog fits in the boot, everything else is on the back seats. The performance of the car and the sound it makes is fantastic, 300bhp with 4 wheel drive means it goes well and like I said before, Smiles per mile are high :-) Yes there's a few quirky little things such as the auto wipers and bluetooth connections that have been a let down, but over all I am enjoying the car, And I'm someone who previously never fancied owning a BMW or a SUV, but the X2 is a very small SUV making it close in size to an estate car or hatchback. Overall very pleased with it so far.

How reliable do you find the car?

Shortly after the car had its first service around 18000 miles, it developed a fault where nothing electrical on the drivers door would function - Mirrors, windows and central locking control buttons all just stopped working. BMW dealer had to replace wiring loom to drivers door under warranty. they said it was apparently a common fault on 3 Series, but not something they'd seen on X2 previously.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Little things like you can only bluetooth one phone at a time to the car, my previous skoda was able to do 2 - I have a work and personal mobile, so this is a pain. BMW Auto wipers are rubbish - again, never had problems with this on previous Skoda - but on the BMW they go to double wipe speed really quickly when it's not needed and then when it stops raining they don't always turn off automatically - Infuriating, and dealer says nothing wrong with them :-o However, in terms of performance - it is great fun to drive and the cabin is a really nice place to be. Smiles per mile are high :-)
