    Value

    2 out of 5 2.0

Certain interior plastics are very poor in comparison to the 3 Series my X3 replaced and the whole car just doesn't feel as well put together.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Don't know as yet, though maintenance package at £1,250 seems a good bet if you intend keeping the car for 5 years, or £870 for 3 years.

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Handling isn't bad for a vehicle of this size and the X3 is relatively easy to drive, though steering is heavy at low speeds.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

The first 3 gears are fairly short and you appear to be through them before you know it, they could do with better spacing. Performance otherwise is what you may expect from the 150bhp diesel, once into 4 and upwards goes quite well.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Not too impressed, my car is a brand new 05 plate, on delivery I noticed a vibration between 1,250 and 1,500rpm, this appears to be getting worse though dealer wants me to wait until I have cover 1,500 miles, it appears to be exhaust or transmission

Its a BMW, or at least supposed to be. Doesn't feel as well put together as others in the BMW range

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

For me I chose sports seats for a back problem as I was used to them from my previous 3 Series but the SE spec for softer suspension.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

No one has stolen it yet, though some little yob pinched the metal dust caps two days after delivery.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

Very good, even provided me with worshop instructions to fit mudflaps myself
