BMW X5 4x4 (2013 - 2018) xDrive25d (231bhp) SE 5d Auto Owner Review

BMW 2015 X5

Want to know everything there is to know about this car?

In their own words

The X5 was bought from BMW in Bedford with 1 previous owner and 26k miles. Five years later and now at 60k miles the car is about to get its tyres replaced and new rear brake pads. Servicing has been done by an independent garage, as BMW are very expensive, although they have had the car at BMW for recall work / checks twice.
Best mpg I have achieved is 50 mpg on a steady, 50-60 mph, motorway run from Birmingham to Leeds (too much traffic to go any quicker) When hoofing it down to Cornwall late at night it will return a commendable 33 mpg. To me this is pretty impressive for such a heavy 4x4 car.
The performance from the 231 bhp two litre diesel engine is very good and whilst not white knuckle fast is more than expected. 0-60 in 7.5 secs and motorway speeds and beyond are achieved and maintained swiftly and with ease.
The run flat tyres can give a firm ride on some surfaces but they also provide a lot of reassurance knowing that those thick, reinforced sidewalls should help me control the car in the event of a puncture when travelling at speed. The car is just about to get re shod with 4 new run flat tyres at a cost of £900 with front wheel alignment. This is the 1st new set of tyres in my ownership and 34k miles.
This X5 has beige leather interior and front comfort seats (heated) with a load of seat control buttons to ensure you can find that perfect comfort for long journeys. Guess this car has the winter pack as it has a heated steering wheel.
Definitely would buy this car again and would highly recommend as solid and safe for transporting the family in comfort.
Unless you’re towing a boat or caravan then I cannot see the need for the 3L diesel as the 231 bhp 2 litre is excellent.
The auto gearbox is superb and does all the work efficiently and smoothly. The car does have steering wheel flap gear change panels but are not used by me and just abit of a ‘toy’ feature for the boys!
Hopefully this car will last me another seven or eight years, at the time of writing I have no reason to doubt this.

How reliable do you find the car?

I have owned this car for 4 years and it has never let me down. It has had two manufacturers recalls but everything else is general wear and tear, like brake pads etc.
The fact that BMW still recall an X5 that’s several years old is reassuring.

Does the car do everything you expected it to do?

Excellent, comfortable space for a family of four and a sheep dog to travel long distances in. The 5 seat option has a useful storage area under the boot floor large enough nor the dogs bed, bowls, food and walking boots. This is where the spare wheel would normally go on a car without run flat tyres.
