Other Citroën C5 (2001 - 2004) models:

  • Summary

    5 out of 5 5.0

What does this car say about you?

Nothing, just the way I like my cars.

What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?

Those neighbours who drive Astons, Jaguars, Mercs and Beemers look down upon my lowly French bouncy castle, but Icare not. My family hate travelling in it, they prefer the 407 coupe. If I actually cared what people think I would consider shooting myself!

Would you buy this car again and why?

Yes and I would have replaced it sooner but I can't kill it - 220,000 miles done now, same engine, head, gearbox, clutch, wheel bearings etc.

What are you likely to buy next?

Fancy a Corvette but I won't sell the C5 until it dies.

  • Buying experience

Type of dealer you bought from?

    Independent

Did you buy this car new?

    No

    What price did you pay?

    £3,200

When did you buy the car?

    June 2005

Did you get a good deal and why?

At the time this was half price due to a couple of small dents (it still has them).

Is there any special reason why you bought this car?

Space and economy, seemed like a good bet after the ten previous Citroen cars I owned that ran faultlessly.

    What was the dealer like?

Nice guy, did everything I needed on time and efficiently.

  • Driving it

    5 out of 5 5.0

    What's it like to drive?

A lovely wafty cushion, totally relaxing and a nice contrast to my 1972 MG and my 407 coupe.

    What's it like to park?

Easy to park with light steering despite its huge bulk.

  • Living with it

    5 out of 5 5.0

Have you had any problems with the car?

Wires from one sensor abraded and shorted out after 210,000 miles. Ten minutes and a roll of electrical tape sorted the problem.

What's most practical about your car?

It is as big as most estate cars with the seats folded and the suspension means I can fill it with bricks and still drive.

    Favourite gadget, option or accessory?

Big electric sunroof. It tilts, slides, closes itself when it rains and I can stick my dinghy masts through it to take them down to the sailing club without having to fit my roof rack.
