Daewoo Espero
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Paid £600 for it in August 2003 with 25k on the clock, added 40k miles in 2 years and I can't say I paid over the odds

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Cheap to buy, if you are patient and figure out what goes where you can use Cavalier parts without worrying about the higher cost of Daewoo parts. I bought this car to last me 6 months, not over 2 years!

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

Drives as well as can be expected. A Bit primitive, but as long as you don't expect a sportscar then you will be fine.

    Performance

    2 out of 5 2.0

Not fast, not expected to be.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Ran like a dream until recently, but that is down to poor servicing on my part. I bought this car thinking it would maybe last me 6 months, over 2 years later I've still got it!

Zero Kudos driving one of these, it is cheap enough for you not to care about that.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Town driving was easy enough, but as a motorway cruiser it just eats up the miles in comfort

  • Security and Service

    Security

    2 out of 5 2.0

Immobiliser as standard, not alarmed. Good enough and this car isn't desirable enough to steal

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Didn't use the Daewoo Dealer, far too expensive

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Whines CONSTANTLY, but so did my old MK2 Astra 1.8i so I expected that when I bought the same engine in a car. New Alternator at 35k, cheap enough though.

    Other

Sunroof leaked, used some sealant and made is watertight again. Central locking on passenger door was a pain for sticking. Intermittent wipe failed, fixed by me in 15 minutes. Air con never worked, I didn't care though.

    Ownership

Did you buy the car new?

    Used

Would you buy the same model again?

    No

Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?

    Yes
